My unplanned journey to Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, turned out to be a terrific decision. I got to see a lot of guys, and one gal, with whom I spent time in school at a reunion golf tournament. I got to meet for the first time and chat with Cam Russell, a former Chicago Blackhawk defenseman, and Steve Armitage, the legendary Canadian sports announcer who told me he counted 54 different sports that he covered during his long career.
But it was mostly about seeing the guys I knew in school. The golf was secondary. For the record, our group shot one under par. Having not golfed in a long time, I didn’t help much but I did drain one putt for the team. Bill, the course owner and organizer of the event, allowed me a few minutes to talk about my project. I was grateful.
So now it is back to Philadelphia where I left my car. I hope it is still there. After Philly, I am going back for one more night with my Air B&B hosts in New York as we will be catching the Broadway production of Come From Away. That award winning musical is about the aftermath of 9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland, in which 38 planes with over 6,000 passengers landed that were en route to The United States. Can’t wait.
