My Western Journey is underway! Well, sort of. Milwaukee is only about an hour away from where I live in Illinois and so I simply made a couple of day trips. Also, there is an interruption in this journey as I travel to Paris after Milwaukee to help my daughter get settled in as she prepares to spend a full year at The University of Paris. Upon my return, the Western Journey begins in earnest on September 1st.
I did meet two very interesting characters in Milwaukee. Jimmy has been in the area for about 10 years after having spent most of his adult life in Los Angeles. He told me of a harrowing story as a Milwaukee landlord in which one person died in her apartment and not long after, her brother with whom she was living, committed suicide by gunshot. The place was a mess and needed special cleaning. In fact, on the day we talked, he was finishing up that tedious chore.
Richard was a retired gentleman on a biking mission. He had to be one of the most gregarious and young-at-heart persons I have come across in my travels. He said that he was writing a book that would simply have all the answers. Doesn’t matter the topic, you will find the answer in his book. Just slightly eccentric but a wonderful human being.
I didn’t put too much of an effort into Milwaukee as I had other things on my mind. But I sure do look forward to my return from Paris so I can be on the road again.
