My Western Journey is underway! Well, sort of. Milwaukee is only about an hour away from where I live in Illinois, so I made day trips to the city. This journey followed a trip to Paris to help my daughter get settled in as she prepares to spend an entire year at The University of Paris. Exciting times!
I did meet two fascinating characters in Milwaukee. Jimmy has been in the area for about 10 years after spending most of his adult life in Los Angeles. He told me of a harrowing story as a Milwaukee landlord in which one person died in her apartment, and not long after, her brother, with whom she was living, committed suicide by gunshot. The place was a mess and needed special cleaning. In fact, on the day we talked, he was finishing up that tedious chore.
Richard was a retired gentleman on a biking mission. He had to be one of the most gregarious and young-at-heart persons I have encountered in my travels. He said that he was writing a book that would have all the answers. The topic doesn’t matter; you will find the answer in his book. Just slightly eccentric but a wonderful human being.
